COLLEGE DAY FOR SENIORS

Eleven Seniors traveled to SWTJC in Uvalde on Tuesday, November 15th to attend College Day. Other school districts that attended were Nueces Canyon, Brackettville, Utopia, Knippa, Sabinal, and Cotulla. Upon arrival, students were greeted by Student Ambassadors who gave each student a packet of information concerning all of the programs and clubs available at SWTJC. Students were able to visit with instructors of each of the vocational programs such as,Vocational Nursing, Wildlife Management, Business, Auto Technology, Welding, Cosmetology, and Computer Systems. Students were then divided into groups and attended four sessions: Admissions, Testing and Scholarships, Student Success center for tutorials, Financial Aid, and Student Orientation. Following that, Seniors were able to visit a technical program or take a college tour. A pizza lunch and complimentary mariachi music completed the morning.Leakey student David Scott brought home first place for the pie eating contest. Way to go , David! His prize was a twenty-five dollar gift certificate to Wal Mart. Our Leakey Seniors are all winners, and we wish to thank SWTJC student recruiter, Elsa De Hoyos and other staff at Southwest Texas Jr. College for an informative and entertaining day.
