Leakey ISD School Board Recognizes December Students of the Month
Three outstanding Leakey ISD students were recently selected by the Leakey ISD faculty to receive the prestigious honor of being named one of the Students of the Month for November! They are: Kimberly (Kimmy) Thomas, Carson Arthur, and Keena Auld. We are very proud of these students and want you to know more about them! Here is what our teachers wrote about these outstanding students!
Kimberly (Kimmy) Thomas-Three words that aptly describe this blond haired, blue eyed young lady are: loving, caring and exceptional! Kimmy is the daughter of Lisa Thomas and Mike Thomas. She has two older sisters. Alyssa attends Leakey ISD and is in the seventh grade. Her oldest sister Chelse is in high school at Big Springs Charter School. Kimmy’s greatest attribute is not being afraid to ask questions! Because of this she has become an outstanding math student! She is very creative and loves art. Her favorite time of the year is winter and she loves to eat pizza. She is an accomplished ballerina and even enjoys practice time! Kimmy would like to become a cheerleader one day. One of Kimmy’s goals this year is to be at school each and every day. Her mother describes her daughter as “energetic” and a “people person”. This big hearted young lady is well liked by her classmates and has won a special place in her teacher’s heart. Keep up the good work, Kimmy! We are proud of you!
Carson Arthur- This outstanding junior high student is twelve years old and the son of Bryan and Casey Whatley. He has two older brothers and one younger brother. This is the first year that Carson has attended Leakey ISD. Carson has made many good friends in the short time he has been enrolled in our school because he is such a caring and friendly person! He is the grandson of Kenneth and Barbara Arthur. Carson is in the sixth grade and he loves playing sports of all kinds, especially football! One of Carson’s favorite things to do is to go hiking and hill climbing! In the summertime, he likes to hang out at the House Pasture Restaurant and he enjoys the food, especially Alaskan king crab, and also the bands that play each weekend at his grandparent’s restaurant! Carson enjoys swimming in the Frio River and “hanging out” with his many friends. Science is his favorite subject. Carson is unsure of what career he will pursue after graduating from high school but he definitely likes Texas A&M!
Keena Auld-This vivacious young lady is the daughter of Ann Moses and Ken Auld. She has a younger sister, Kensee, who is an eighth grader at Leakey ISD. Keena has attended Leakey ISD since she was in kindergarten. Keena is a scholar athlete! She participates in volleyball, basketball and track while maintaining a very high grade average! Keena is a cheerleader and a member of the Leakey Eagle Marching Band and the National Junior Honor Society (NJHS). Currently she is preparing a science project that she will exhibit in the Leakey ISD school science fair in January and later in the Regional Science Fair held in San Antonio in March! Keena has many friends and those friends recently honored her by electing Keena to be a Homecoming Duchess, to represent the ninth grade class in the Homecoming Court! Keena loves to shop with her mom and sister and is an outstanding young lady with a very bright future ahead of herself! Keena plans to attend the University of Texas in Austin when she graduates from Leakey ISD in 2013!
These three students were honored at a regular School Board meeting held on the evening of December 14th, 2009. Criteria considered by the faculty in selecting students for this award include: deportment, citizenship, attitude, work habits, friendliness, participation in extra-curricular activities, and academic performance. In addition to an attractive framed certificate, each student received a $25.00 gift certificate to one of three restaurants in town.
